0 A.D. Alpha 17 for Linux
0 A.D. is a free, open-source, cross-platform real-time strategy game under development by Wildfire Games. It is a historical war and economy game focusing on the years between 500 B.C. and A.D. 500. The game is cross-platform, playable on Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Linux. The game aims to be entirely free and open-source, using the GPL 2+ license for the game engine and the CC-BY-SA for the game art.
0 A.D. is a very complex and ambitious project. A lot of work has been put into it, but a lot remains to be done. We’re not releasing a playable game – you’ll have to wait until much later if that’s what you’re interested in. There are plenty of major missing features and bugs and rough edges. We’re releasing this as a work-in-progress, pre-alpha project, aimed at developers who might be interested in this kind of thing, in the hope of sharing resources with a community that would otherwise be excluded from our development process.
The twelve factions are: Three of the Hellenic States (Athens, Sparta and Macedonia), two of the kingdoms of Alexander the Great’s successors (Seleucids and Ptolemaic Egyptians), two Celtic tribes (Britons and Gauls), the Republican Romans, the Achaemenid Persians, the Iberians, the Carthaginians, and the Mauryan Indians. Each civilization is complete with substantially unique artwork, technologies and civilization bonuses.
Developed using Pyrogenesis, a game engine custom-built to suit our needs, 0 A.D. will give players a rich and entertaining real-time gaming experience. 0 A.D. is portable, running not only on Windows, like most games, but also on Linux and Mac OS X.
